Change at Ely Army Cadets!

The new Ely detachment line-up (L-R)
Sgt Jakes, Sgt Pridmore, detachment commander S/Sgt Minnis & Sgt
Beck
Its all change at the Ely Detachment of
Cambridgeshire Army Cadet Force. Cadets and instructors at the
cadet centre in
Heaton Drive recently witnessed a
change of commander - and said goodbye to one of
their star cadets.
On a recent parade evening Lieutenant Matt
Murfitt, the detachment commander for four years, formally
handed over the reins to Staff Sergeant Instructor Kay Minnis.
Kay will now take over responsibility for the training of Ely
youngsters aged 12 to 18 in a whole range of exciting and
challenging activities designed to equip them for adult life,
whilst Matt moves on to the role of area training officer based
at the cadet headquarters at Waterbeach.
Talking about his time at Ely Matt said: I have had four very fulfilling years here
and enjoyed sharing in the many achievements of the cadets. I
have every intention of continuing to share in their progress in
my wider role as area training officer. |
The cadet force is a family following for Kay,
who was persuaded to join the ACF three years ago by her husband
- himself a serving ACF instructor. She has previously
served with Waterbeach, Ely and March detachments and said of
her new position, I relish the
challenge of leading the young people in Ely detachment and I
have every confidence that they will continue to achieve their
best.
Sadly, the detachment also said goodbye to Cadet
Company Sergeant Major Sam Cole (18) who has just reached the
upper age limit for cadet service. He is planning to return as
an adult instructor later in the year though, once he has
completed an intensive training course. Speaking of his service
he said, Im really sad to leave, as
the army cadet force has played a major part in my life. My aim
now is to qualify as an adult instructor and play a full part in
the leadership of local cadets.
