Top shots from Cambridgeshire ACF

Colonel Roger Herriot and County Shooting Officer Lt Kevin Pilcher with the team

Top shots from Cambridgeshire Army Cadet Force came away with top shot Brigade Champion and 3rd in the Frankford Shield on 10th & 11th May.

Twenty teams from across the 49 Brigade area, which covers Derbyshire to Essex and all counties in between came together at Beckingham near Newark on Saturday to take part in the Frankford Shield and the Watts Bowl target rifle shooting competition.

Cambridgeshire entered two teams for both competitions and the cadets had a fantastic day shooting in the sunshine.

All their hard work and effort leading up to this event paid off when David Gaskell (16) from Ramsey, Niall Folbigg (16) from Sawston, Abigail Durrant (17) from Burwell and Catherine McKeever (15) from Comberton, (Cambridgeshire’s A team) came away with third place in the Frankford Shield.

The Frankford Shield is shot at 300 and 500 yards with the 7.62 target rifle and is an entry competition

for the Inter Services Cadet Target Rifle Meeting, which will be shot in July at Bisley.

Not only did we have fantastic team results but we also had the top shot of the Brigade. Abigail Durrant (17) from Burwell earned 1st place in the Cadet Dozen Brigade Championship.

The Frankford Shield and the Watts Bowl are all in preparation for the next challenge the cadets face at the Inter Services Cadet Target Rifle Meeting in July held at Bisley. Both matches are shot again to find the cadet champion and service champion.

Inter Services Cadet Target Rifle Meeting (ISCRM) held at Bisley is a unique event where cadets from all services all over the country attend. There is no other cadet activity which hosts as many shooting teams in one place at the same time from across the cadet services.

We are always looking for more cadets to get involved in shooting and each company has spaces to be filled. So if you want to take your shooting up to the next level or simply want to pass shooting on your APC come and see what it’s all about. Please see your Detachment Commander or Contact your Company Shooting Officer for further information.
