Cambridgeshire Army Cadet Force – Make Your Mark

Drill

Drill

‘Drill’ is one of the first things that come to mind when the word "Army" is mentioned.

Drill has evolved over a long period of time and is now accepted as one of the main foundations of military discipline. The purpose of formal cadet parade ground drill is to enable groups of cadets to move easily and quickly from place to place in an orderly manner.

So what exactly will be learned?

Cadets start by learning how to form up into a squad, then turning and saluting at the halt. We will then get you marching and moving, turning and saluting on the march. Next we will introduce drill with a rifle. You will start with basic rifle drill at the halt and then whilst marching. Later you may also learn drill moves using a pace stick or banner.

Apart from learning how to do drill yourself, later during your service we will teach you how to instruct drill movements to others and control groups of cadets using drill. This will include learning the words of command and experience in the timing of drill commands.

We will give you all the instruction and skills you need to be able to carry out and command drill, all you will need to do is practice to make perfect!
