Cambridgeshire Army Cadet Force – Make Your Mark

Expedition Training

Expedition Training

Expeditions can involve potentially dangerous situations so it is important that you learn some basic skills before you can take part in even their basic forms.

First aid, fieldcraft and skill at arms are all taught in separate sections of the APC Syllabus and during expedition training you will also be taught the Countryside Code and Camp craft.

The Countryside Code is in place to encourage everyone to respect, protect & enjoy our countryside. It started life in the 1950s as the Country Code and the updated version was launched in July 2004. The Code, which applies throughout England and Wales, makes it clear what the responsibilities are for both the public and people who manage land. Most of it is simple commonsense.

Camp craft includes basic techniques of how to live and move in a strange environment, particularly during an expedition. The skills you will learn include preparing, clothing and equipping yourself correctly before you go. It is vital to understand the procedures which must always be in place before you set out. You need to be sure of how to move safely across country, the correct methods of carrying a load, the importance of selecting a suitable route and how to identify what makes a suitable camp site -  plus the essential activities on arrival – pitching a tent, cooking a meal and constructing a latrine.
