Cambridgeshire Army Cadet Force – Make Your Mark

First Aid

First Aid

First Aid is not only part of the APC Syllabus but it is also a vital life saving skill. In recent years Cambridgeshire ACF has held a very high profile nationally in first aid and won most of the national awards on offer. We have some of the most qualified and dedicated instructors in the UK and work closely with St John Ambulance to a training syllabus which is nationally recognised.

You will start from the very basics of emergency action such as how to call for the emergency services. You will then progress to learning how to identify and treat various medical conditions; how and when to put a casualty into the recovery position; and the correct procedure for resuscitation (CPR).

Cambridgeshire ACF is also affiliated to Heartstart UK - an initiative co-ordinated by the British Heart Foundation aimed at teaching the vital skill of Emergency Life Support (ELS). It provides opportunities to learn Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation - because this action, performed by a bystander during an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest, has proven to be so significant in saving life. Heartstart is run at detachment level and on completion of the course successful cadets receive an official nationally recognised Heartstart certificate.

Each year several first aid competitions take place inside and outside of the county. We usually hold the Inter Company first aid competitions locally, followed by a regional event for cadets throughout East Anglia and then a national inter-service competition. In addition we have regularly competed in the annual St John Ambulance Grand Prior Event. For dates please see the website events section.

If you have an interest in developing first aid skills please speak to your detachment commander or our County First Aid Adviser.
