Within 18 months of becoming an PI you will be required to attend the
residential Initial Training Course held at Beckingham Camp,
Methods of teaching
Drill
Fieldcraft
Map and Compass
Weapon safety
Weapon handling on the Cadet General Purpose Rifle (GP)
Take part in an overnight exercise
Weapon handling test on the GP rifle
2 Teaching practices
Following completion of this course you will qualify for promotion to Sergeant Instructor and be qualified to teach subjects to two star level of the APC syllabus.

Within three years of joining the ACF you will need
to complete the residential Adult Instructors Course held at Cadet
Training Centre,
Drill
Fieldcraft
Map and compass
Weapon handling - General Purpose Rifle (GP) and Light Support (LSW) weapons
Weapon handling test on the LSW
Two weapon teaching practices one on GP and one LSW
Drill assessment
Three written tests covering map and compass, fieldcraft and cadet safety precautions
After successfully completing this course you will be eligible for promotion to Staff Sergeant Instructor, subject to vacancies being available, and will also be qualified to teach up to 4 star level.

The next course is the King George IV Leadership
Course which is again held at
Weapon handling revision
Pyrotechnic devices (trip flares, etc.)
Every aspect of planning, executing and debriefing fieldcraft exercises
Successful completion of the KGIV Leadership course will make you eligible for promotion to Sergeant Major Instructor subject to vacancies. You will also be able to plan and conduct field training for cadets.
