Music In The Hills – Commemorating Rorkes Drift 1879

Twenty seven members of our Corps of Drums and six adult instructors visited Brecon in the hills of Wales between 19th and 22 February 2009 to take part in an historic concert arranged by Cadet Force Music. Nine cadet formations from around the UK gave displays of martial music to commemorate the famous battle at Rorkes Drift in 1879 when 150 British soldiers gallantly defended a supply station against over 4,000 Zulu warriors, earning ELEVEN Victoria Crosses and host of other awards. Our contingent took pride of place at the head of the public procession during the day on 21st February -  being led by Drum Major Jamie Martin (16) from Cambridge -  and went on to give a rousing demonstration of drums with a light display in the evening to an audience including several senior officers from the armed services.
