Sixty army cadets aged 12 to 18 overcame freezing temperatures to take part in the annual inter company cross country competition organised by Cambridgeshire Army Cadet Force on Sunday 8th February 2009.

The cadets rise to the challenge

The event, which took place at the Waterbeach army training area near Cambridge, was 3 kilometres long and held in four categories. Each of the three companies of the county force, which are based at Peterborough & Fenland, Cambridge & Ely, and Huntingdonshire, entered teams of youngsters keen to invest their energy to earn an array of glittering prizes.

There were some outstanding performances from individual runners including Gareth Hutchings (13) from Whittlesey winner of the intermediate boys event; Jennie Davison (14) from Cherry Hinton winner of the intermediate girls event; Nick Moore (16) from Ely winner of the senior boys event; and Rebecca Hare-Mitchum (17) from Wisbech winner of the senior girls event.

No. 1 Company from the Peterborough & Fenland areas was declared the overall winning team.

An impressive collection of medals were presented to the runners by the County Commandant, Colonel Roger Herriot, who congratulated the cadets on their efforts and looked forward to the Eastern Regional Event which takes place during March.
