Sector Inspector Dominic Glazebrook of Cambridgeshire Constabulary had a special duty to perform that night – watched by No.1 Company Commander Major Tom Denton. He presented Detachment Commander Staff Sergeant ‘Mitch’ Mitchum with 12 micro camping burners for the cadets courtesy of Cambridgeshire Police Federation.

The gift was due to the efforts of PI Bob Stewart an adult instructor at Walton, who is also Community Beat Police Constable for South Werrington in the city. Through his local contacts he managed to get the Police Federation to donate £120 towards equipment at the detachment – which was transformed into the type 1300w bleuet stoves.

“I hope the cadets will get good use of these stoves during their camping activities”, said Inspector Glazebrook. “The police are always keen to support the work of organisations such as the Army Cadet Force in fostering good citizenship and leadership skills in the young”

Immediately after the main presentation - which was covered by the Peterborough Evening Telegraph - Major Denton took the opportunity to present two Heart start first aid certificates to Cadets Dan Wright and Christian Jones.

Walton Detachment currently has 16 cadets parading on Thursday evenings between 7pm and 9.30pm at their building in Saville Road, Peterborough and hopes to increase that number in the very near future. Places are available for young people aged 12 to 18 and also for adults aged 18 to 55. To find out more take a look through our web site for information or call 01223 862949.
