Lincs Take The Cake

Two hundred and twenty five army cadets aged 13 to 18 took part in the Army Cadet Force annual Eastern Region cross country championships hosted by Cambridgeshire Army Cadet Force on Sunday 8th March 2009.


The winning team  -  Lincolnshire ACF

The event, which took place at the Waterbeach army training area near Cambridge, was 3 kilometres long and held in four categories. Each of nine teams representing the counties of Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, Cambridgeshire, Beds & Herts, Lincolnshire, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire together with the combined Leicestershire, Northants and Rutland ACF team, entered youngsters keen to invest their energy to win an array of prizes – plus the distinction of being selected for the imminent national championships.

There were some outstanding performances from individual runners including Cadet A. Naylor from Beds & Herts ACF winner of the intermediate girls event; Cadet C. Cronin from Suffolk ACF winner of the intermediate boys event; Cadet S. Nicholls from Essex ACF winner of the senior girls event; and Corporal C. Johnson from Norfolk ACF winner of the senior boys event. 

On the final count the winning team was Lincolnshire – 41 points clear of runners up Essex.

An impressive collection of medals was presented to the runners by Cambridgeshire County Commandant, Colonel Roger Herriot, with the overall winners shield for Lincolnshire ACF being accepted on behalf of the team by Cadet Staff Sergeant Andrea Jackson (16) from Boston.   The cadets are now looking forward to the national cross country event which takes place on 21st March 2009 at Warcop.
