Cambridgeshire Army Cadet Force – Make Your Mark

Cambridgeshire Cadets Take Suffolk Shield

A top team of Cambridgeshire Army Cadets shot their way to victory recently in the ‘Suffolk Shoot’ which was held at Thetford ranges on the 2nd May.

Our skilled shots

Team Coach Lt Kevin Pilcher, County shooting officer, attended the annual shooting competition with ten eager shooters who competed against four other teams including two from the Combined Cadet Force - Woodbridge CCF and Framlingham CCF - and two from the Army Cadet Force - Suffolk ACF and Essex ACF.

Prizes are only awarded to the highest team of four nominated competitors who are named before the shoot begins and our team consisted of Cdt Sgt Abigail Durrant (18) from Burwell, Cdt Cpl Niall Folbigg (17) from Sawston, Cdt L/Cpl Catherine McKeever (16) from Cherry Hinton and Cdt L/Cpl Imogen O’Bryan (17) from Sawston.

After the first round was shot at a distance of 300 yards Framlingham were leading Cambridgeshire by just two points and both were well clear of the other teams. After the next distance of 600 yards Cambridgeshire had taken the lead and in the 500 yards shoot the tussle finished with Cambridgeshire and Framlingham drawn. In a dramatic conclusion a ‘count back rule’ was brought into affect identifying Cambridgeshire as the victorious team.

The teams outstanding effort paid off when they were presented with the prestigious Suffolk Shield – and the presentations did not stop there.

Shield winning team

All four members of our winning team were presented with individual medals with Abigail Durrant coming away with overall individual winner and highest shot of the county. She had achieved a magnificent 98 point total from a possible 105. County second medals went to Catherine McKeever and Imogen O’Bryan who each scored 88.
