army cadets and twelve of their adult instructors went the
extra mile for cancer relief on Sunday 3rd May, marshalling
the seventeen mile route of the MacMillan cancer relief
riverside walk from
The event was one of 25
walks taking place around the country and has the
distinction of being the longest. It was officially opened
by Cambridge City Mayor Councillor Mike Dixon in the

The fine weather encouraged over 500 registered walkers to take on the route to Kings Playing fields, Ely, and this year Star 107 radio promotions team Annick and Bekki were on hand to liven up the action. Refreshments provided by MacMillan volunteers half way at Waterbeach Marina encouraged the walkers - and at the finish line in Ely hot soup and drinks were laid on by Cambridge University Officer Training Corps.
MacMillan fund raising manager Michelle Pullen said, “We could not even attempt this walk without the assistance of the army cadets. The always get a great response from the walkers and we are always grateful for their assistance”.
