Cadets Shoot To Success!

The Cambridgeshire shooting team are on a roll. Following on from their success with the Suffolk Shield they have now been crowned Brigade Champions at the recent 49 Brigade Cadet Target Rifle Match, held at Beckingham Ranges, Lincolnshire on the 9th May.

A total of 14 teams took part coming from Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire, Essex, Suffolk and Leicester Northants and Rutland. Two competitions were run on the same day. The first was for the Frankfort Shield and the second was for the Watts Bowl.

 

For the second year Cambridgeshire entered two teams for both of the fiercely contested competitions. The Frankfort Shield (which is the entry shoot for the Inter Services Cadet Target Rifle Meeting) is shot over 300 and 500 yards and the Watts Bowl is shot at 600yds.

 

With confidence high Cdt Sgt Abigail Durrant (18) from Burwell, Cdt Cpl Niall Folbigg (17) from Sawston, Cdt L/Cpl Catherine McKeever (16) from Cherry Hinton and Cdt L/Cpl Imogen O’Bryan (17) from Sawston (Cambridgeshire’s A Team) put in an outstanding performance and came 3rd in the Frankfort Shield and placed 1st in the Watts Bowl, making them the Brigade Champion Team.

Abigail Durrant put in another Stirling performance and scored 103.08 of a possible 120.24 points which put her in 3rd place overall for the individual performance.

 

The next challenge to await the team is the Inter Services Cadet Target Rifle Meeting, which will be shot at Bisley in July. Following the recent fantastic performances with confidence and determination high they will be looking forward to another successful competition.
