Glorious summer weather was on hand when old comrades
of the Cambridgeshire Regiment met at Ely Cathedral on Sunday
14th June 2009
for their annual commemoration service.
The service was attended by several dignitaries including the
Dean of Ely, Dr Michael Chandler and The Chaplain General, The
Venerable Stephen Robbins QHC. Many friends, guests and
members of the public witnessed wreaths laid in honour of
those members of the Regiment and its subsequent formations
who had made extreme sacrifices in the service of their
country.
Following the service an afternoon parade took place on
Cathedral Green during which the Lord Lieutenant of
Cambridgeshire, Hugh Duberly CBE took the salute alongside the
Mayor of Ely, Councillor Richard Hobbs.
The event is supported each year by Cambridgeshire Army Cadet
Force and over 50 young army cadets aged 13 to 18 from all
around the County took part - putting on a splendid
display of military music and drill movements which included
17 members of the County Corps of Drums led by Drum Major Amy
Gray (17) from Peterborough.
