Cambridgeshire Army Cadet Force – Make Your Mark

Honoured For Heroism

LORD LIEUTENANT OF CAMBRIDGESHIRE Hugh Duberly, CBE visited the Cambridgeshire Army Cadet Training Centre at Waterbeach near Cambridge on 27th September – to present a special award to a very special young lady.

Jodi Page (16) receives her certificate from the Lord Lieutenant

Watched by 60 cadets, Mr Duberly handed a top St John Ambulance First Aider of the Year Award certificate to Cadet Sergeant Jodi Page (16) for saving the life of Cambridge pensioner John Hullock (78) at Cambridge Railway Station on 30th June 2009.

On that fateful day, Jodi, from Chettisham near Ely, was travelling to Long Road Sixth Form College in the city when she came across John who had collapsed unconscious in a public taxi rank. She single handedly revived him using a resuscitation aid she carries with her in her purse – putting into practice three years of cadet force first aid training. Emergency para medics attending the scene hailed her a lifesaver for her actions.

John, from Cromwell Road Cambridge, made a full recovery and took the opportunity to meet up with Jodi exactly one week after the harrowing event to say thanks. “If Jodi had not done this for me I would not be alive today”, he said.

Jodi, a former student from Ely College is now studying PE, media, and applied sciences at Long Road College and is no stranger to dealing with emergency incidents. In 2007 she climbed into the wreckage of a car following a road accident to help the female driver.

Speaking of her new award she said, “I don’t really want a fuss”. “The first aid training I received took over automatically and I only did what had to be done.”

- and it may not end there for the young heroine. Jodi has also been nominated for a St John’s Society medal for her brave actions.
