Cambridgeshire Army Cadet Force – Make Your Mark

After four years as Cambridgeshire Army Cadet Force Public Relations Officer Captain Tony Ansell is taking up a new role on 1st October 2009 – and his successor is none other than his current deputy – Staff Sergeant Instructor Helen Matthews from Chatteris.

New Army Cadet Force PR Adviser – Staff Sergeant Helen Matthews

Helen, (37) – who previously served with Bedfordshire Army Cadet Force - has been with Cambridgeshire Army Cadets for the past four years. Her service includes being second in command at Ramsey Detachment and three years as County Webmaster and Deputy PRO. Her work in Cadet Force IT development earned her a well earned tribute from the Commanding Officer of the National Army Cadet PR Unit in 2008. She is a well known personality who regularly assists with cadet activities throughout the county.

“I am really looking forward to being the main focus for PR activities in the County”, said Helen. “And I shall be counting on the support of everyone in the organisation to make sure we always take centre stage with our news and achievements”

Captain Ansell’s new role as Eastern Region Corporate Communications Officer is located with East Anglia Reserve Forces & Cadets Association. Plans to appoint 13 officers in similar roles throughout the UK were recently unveiled by HQ Land Command with the aim of raising the profile of the Army Cadet Force nationally through advising and supporting cadet formations on the whole range of public relations activities.

“The Army Cadet Force is a youth organisation primarily aimed at developing young people to become good citizens”, said Tony. “It is often mislabelled solely as a recruiting tool for the armed services. This is untrue. Youngsters who have an interest in the services are supported in their career choice, however many others chose to leave with BTEC and Duke of Edinburgh Awards to take their place in civilian life well equipped for a future of achievement.”
