Hannah (15 years) said she was ”very proud and honoured to receive this Award” from Gavin Carter, Grandson of Jim Cater whom along with Mrs Connie Carter and other family members had gathered to witness the presentation.

The Jim Carter Award was set up in 2006 following the death of Jim Carter, a Whittlesey man, who served in the 2nd Battalion, Cambridgeshire Regiment during the Second World War. Jim saw service in the Far East until he was captured and held prisoner of war by the Japanese for over three years. The Carter family were keen to keep Jim’s memory alive by presenting an Award to the Best Cadet NCO in No 1 Hereward Company, Cambridgeshire Army Cadet Force.

This was the third year the Award had been presented, initially in 2006 by Mrs Connie Carter and then in later years by other family members.

The evening was organised by Mr Bernard Gray-Esson from

Lt Col ( Retired) Wally Badcock MBE, now living at March was a member of the Cambridgeshire Regt and a prisoner of war along with Jim Carter said “He was delighted to see that the Jim Carter Award was still going strong and being awarded to such a deserving Cadet”. He went on the speak of Jim as a friend and as a first class soldier whom was a good example to follow.

Hannah Jarmany lives at Tydd St Mary, Near Wisbech and is a keen member of Wisbech Detachment, No 1 Company, Cambridgeshire Army Cadet Force. She has been a member of the Cadet Force for 3 years. Her interests include shooting, fieldcraft and Community work.
