Cadets Support Welcome Home Parade

Soldiers from the regiment’s 1st Battalion – the ‘Vikings’ – took part in the welcome home parade through Cambridge city centre before a civic reception at the Guildhall. A selection of cadets where chosen to take part in the Guard of Honour collecting on behalf of the ABF.

The parade marked the battalion’s return from a six-month tour of duty in Afghanistan’s Helmand province some of whom had been cadets within Cambridgeshire ACF. Lt Col James Woodham who led the parade, described the turnout as “absolutely extraordinary”.

A salute was taken outside King’s College by the regiment’s colonel-in-chief, the Duke of Gloucester, and Cllr Sheila Stuart, the mayor of Cambridge.

Accompanied by the Bassingbourn-based Minden Band, there were cheers as the soldiers went by, and many of the troops had family in the crowd watching them.

Public support for the event was in the thousands seeing people dig deep into their pockets to make contributions to the ABF and Royal Anglian Regiment.
