Corporal Sam Davies (17) from Aldreth was appointed
Cadet Drum Major at the Corps of Drums Training day, held at
the Peterborough TA Centre on the 16th
January. Captain Lynn Herriot (54) commanding officer of the
Corps of Drums presented Sam with his new uniform brassard.
Sam, who is a student at Long Road sixth from college,
Cambridge and studying Sport (National Diploma) has been a
Cadet with Cambridgeshire Army Cadet Force for over 4
years and a member of the Corps of Drums since he started.
At the National Drum Major Competition, which took place
during the cadet music concentration held at Longmoor in
October last year, Sam was placed runner up in a
competition that was of an exceptionally high standard and
very close scoring. Having achieved the highest star level
in his training he is now able to teach junior cadets. The
main instrument’s he plays are the side and bass drum with
some experience playing the bugle.
The appointment of Drum Major is a considerable
achievement and the highest position in cadet music. As
Drum Major and equipped with his mace Sam will now lead
the Corps of Drums on parades and displays throughout the
year. Speaking of the appointment he said “I was not
expecting to get such a high placing in the National Drum
Majors Competition so that was a great surprise. To now be
the cadet Drum Major for Cambridgeshire Army Cadet Force
is just amazing and I am delighted to receive this
appointment. Of all the things that are planned for this
year I am most looking forward to taking part in the
Cadet150 Parade taking place in London. The Parade will
include cadets from all over the UK marching down the Mall
which will be followed by a garden party at Buckingham
Palace. As
this is my last year in cadets and it being the 150th
year of the Army Cadet Force this is going to be a year I
will remember for the rest of my life.”
